    Winter Camping

    Winter Camping

Winter is almost here, and there is not reason to neglect the outdoors. There are many outdoor activities to do even if it is really cold outside.
I found this really helpful article by Don Childrey and his contributors.
I hope you enjoy it and think of winter camping as a great option for your outdoor activities this winter and don’t forget to get your camping gear with FREE shipping at www.eknives.com

    PLANNING A WINTER CAMPING TRIP
When planning a winter camping trip, especially if snow camping, remember that travel will be much slower than in the summer. Reduce your mileage goal by 50% to 60%. Daylight hours are fewer in the winter, which will also limit your time. Normal activities around camp take longer in cold weather.

    Bison is Healthy & Delicious

    Bison is Healthy & Delicious

Bison cooks much faster than beef. Because it has very low fat, it tends to dry out if it is overcooked. We suggest that you plan on cooking it about half to two-thirds the time you would normally cook beef.

Wild Game Recipe – VENISON LOIN ROAST @ eKnives.com

    •October 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Hunting season is coming soon my friends. Time to freshen up your recipe plans with this Venison Loin Roast. I prefer to add a few more veggies and remember to experiment with various seasonings. Buttermilk biscuits and sweet potatoe make great side dishes.

    VENISON LOIN ROAST

    Delicious Venison Roast

1 deer loin roast, about 3½ lb
    Salt and pepper
¼ lb suet or salt pork
    ½ cup water
    2 or 3 medium onions
Wipe roast clean with damp cloth.
    Trim off any strong-smelling fat.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper and place in shallow roasting pan, skin side up.
Cut suet or pork in ¼-inch thick slices and lay over top of roast.
Place in a moderately slow oven (325 F) and roast uncovered for 2 hr.
At the end of the first hr, add ¼ cup hot water and the peeled onions which have been cut in quarters.
When deer loin is done, remove crisp suet or pork and discard.
Remove onions, skim off extra fat, and add remaining ¼ cup water.
Scrape all browned residue from the bottom of the pan to make pan gravy.
Return onions, reheat, and serve hot with the roast.
    5 to 6 servings.

Enter this article by Britt in about.com. She reminded me that going for a walk or having a picnic can be lots of fun and best of all they are FREE!
