Picturesque Rt. 89

Picturesque Rt. 89

This weekend brought the opportunity to get out of the city for the afternoon. We visited a friend in Sunapee. A bit of a ride from the city up picturesque Rt. 89. Imagine my surprise to see snow on the ground in his backyard. I thought I’d seen the last of it melt away a few days ago. No such luck. I’ll spare you the photo evidence.

We'll just call him Mr. Turtle

It was our first time visiting our friend in his new house, and there were plenty of ‘new friends’ waiting to be met. I didn’t get this guys name, but he was hanging out in the living room enjoying his home made pool.

The coolest guy in the house however, is Onyx. Not sure of his mix, but he is one of those rare dogs. Quiet, mellow and doesn’t run away from the property at all. We had a great time hanging out. He’s a big fan of the belly rub. Go figure.

brookMoving to the porch out back to do some grilling I can’t help but feel immediately at ease. It’s a beautiful babbling brook, running right along the back and side of the house. Close your eyes, take in the sun and the sound and you might fall asleep by accident. We took some time to explore along the edges and further up near a pond of sorts. Found some deer tracks along the way, but no other obvious wild life.

This is just plain fun

Of course, it wouldn’t be the successful end of winter if we didn’t have to clean up the mess it brings with it. Hands on work is a way of life out here, whether you like it or not. Country living isn’t for the faint of  heart, but it’s great exercise and honest work. And let’s face it, it’s a perfect excuse to use our toys!
